Role & Responsibility:
Producer
Sprint planning & Progress tracking
Tools:
Unreal 4.27
Jira
My Thoughts:
Team Red Dragon is probably the largest team in the history of the capstone project, with three designers and four developers. It was quite challenging in the beginning, not to mention that collaboration itself was a brand new experience for many team members.
Mini-Postmortem:
What when right:
Team member
Communication
What when wrong:
Different objective between designer and developer
Jira
The collaboration project was a brand new experience for everyone involved, which brought with it a number of unknowns and challenges. To minimize chaos and ensure smooth communication, as the producer, we made it a point to keep communication open within the team and hold two in-person meetings per sprint to closely track progress.
Postmortem:
One of the project's strengths was its large team size, with three designers and four developers. This allowed us to implement a lot of content and design work, which was impressive. However, this came at a cost, as it added a lot of stress for the producer.
Emphasizing communication from the outset was a wise decision, as it fostered a strong sense of teamwork and chemistry throughout the development process. This was critical, given that effective collaboration was a key element of the project.
However, there were some challenges that arose during the project. One of the biggest issues was that designers had different objectives established by different instructors, while developers had each month's objective established from the beginning. As a result, we had to spend extra time discussing how to ensure that the team could work together effectively towards the sprint goal.
Another problem was with Jira, the project management tool used for the project. Due to the limitations of the free version of Jira, only ten people were allowed to join the project board, and as a result, the producer was unable to be invited into the project board, which made tracking the team's progress extremely challenging.
Despite these challenges, the project was successful overall. The new experience of collaboration created some hurdles to overcome, but the team was able to work together effectively and produce a lot of content. By emphasizing communication and fostering good chemistry among team members, we were able to navigate the project's difficulties and achieve our goals.
